Post cast Edema ?: Swelling after the cast is removed is quite common. It is known as post cast edema. Swelling is actually due to the cast's long term effect on the lymphatic vessels. Some edema might also be due to the actual damage to the soft tissue at the ankle level. Treatment with elevation, compression stockings and physical therapy would help stem the tide.

It can take a while: Tendons receive a relatively poor blood supply, and can take a long time to heal.  You need to rest it as much as possible.  As hard as it might be, what rests that area better than anything is a non-weight bearing cast, and even this may take a couple of months.

With a stress Fx-: -the treatment is non weight bearing,so you must start to wt. bear slowly or the other protected bone will be stress due to suddenly having to bear weight. So if you are excessively walking you may need to back off.

Determine the ethiol: First the ethiology of the swelling need to stablish may not have anything to do with the stress fx.And it could be that the force needed to stop the swelling will require higher mm hg.
