People who get gout: Have a difficult time processing purine-rich foods.  There's a long list of such food available, most commonly shellfish, beer/red wine, organ meat, legumes, smoked fish and more.  Usually there's an event--consuming a fairly large portion of these foods that triggers the acute arthritic attack. Less commonly , it can be a result of dehydration associates with diuretics taken for blood pressure.

Children with gout typically have an underlying disease that affects uric acid metabolism.  There is a rare metabolic disease called lesch-nyhan that can cause gout.  Some kidney diseases can be associated with high uric acid levels and cause gout.

May be: If you have positive family history of gout, that consider a risk factor you may devoloped gout and early.

Seek help: The best thing to do would be seek medical attention. Your doctor can administer medication that would stop the pain, subside the inflammation and bring your Uric acid levels down.
