Lower uric acid: Long term you need to lower the blood uric acid. In the body uric acid converts to monosodium urate and forms urate crystals that build up in the tissue including the joints. A variety of stimuli - trauma, surgery, medications, etc can stimulate the body to attack these crystals with neutrophils and other cells stimulating inflammation and a gout attack. Medications came stop the attacks.
