No: Carpal tunnel is a problem with a nerve in the arm. It causes numbness and tingling in the hand.  Neck and shoulder issues would not be related to carpal tunnel

: Maybe in part as carpal tunnel syndrome can refer to shoulder but would not affect upper back.  However, brachial plexitis might explain this.  Discuss with your doctor

Carpal Tunnel: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is due to median nerve that passes through a narrow canal at the wrist becomes impinged due to swelling. Typically, there's discomfort downstream from your wrist (hand/fingers) and not the elbow, shoulder and neck. You may have a herniated disc at the neck area causing issues downstream i.e. back, shoulder, elbow. Consider further eval w/Healthtap or your primary care MD.

have left side shoulder bursitis and carpal tunnel but both left and right hands go numb for no reason. goes away when i flex my wrist and hand back.

Chances are you: Have bilateral CTS . why guess and risk perminant loss of function ?  splint both wrists at night for 10 days and then check your nerve function ( EMG-NCS test ) if you still have evidence if CTS or have muscle denervation on the EMG consider more aggressive therapy CTS release surgery.

i am having severe carpal tunnel symptoms but also the same pain/swelling/tenderness in my ring/pinky fingers through my forearm and into my elbow, also aching in my shoulder and neck. what can all of this be caused by?

Get localization : A predominant ulnar nerve problem plus carpal tunnel syndrome associated with neck and shoulder pain is consistent with brachial plexus or cervical pathology.  Most likely thoracic outlet and EMG is needed

Yes: Compression of the nerve to the hand causes atrophy of the hand muscles. This leads to weakness, poor performance by the hand and chronic pain. Chronic pain leads to medication overuse, depression and decrease motivation.

No: by definition the issues of CTS are at the site where the nerves enter through the wrist (carpal) bones. Abnormalities in the further up the arm may have some shared symptoms, but it would not be called CTS.

Many choices: Generally compression and/or repetitive low level trauma to the volar(undersurface) of the wrist.

Variable: Any type of repetitive use of the hands and or wrists can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome depending upon risk factors and anatomy. This is true for computer use as well.
