Better to delay: Using the current methods for pap preparation, most of the debris is removed, however, it would be preferable to delay the pap while there is active bleeding.

They should not.: A pap smear should not have any effect on your period, or it would not be used as a regular screening test.  However, it is probably not done too close to the time of a period since this culd interfere with the pap result.

: I think it would be up to your physician or gynecologist who performed the Pap smear to determine whether the specimen on the slide would be acceptable. When we take a Pap smear from the cervix we inspect the specimen on the glass slide closely before submitting it.

Sometimes. : Sometimes if the menstrual cycle is light physicians will do it. But if you are having your cycle it sometimes becomes hard to interpret the results. Call your doctors office to see if they will still do it or they may tell you to reschedule.

Avoid bleeding : Blood from your monthly menses can interfere with your pap results.  Therefore, most physicians prefer to perform a pap test when a woman is not bleeding heavily.  I would recommend any time during the month but avoiding the first 3-4 days of the start of your period if possible.

Usually this is fine: Sometimes it affects the result of the pap. Once the results are in, your doctor will advise you.

Yeast infection: The ph change to alkalinity often occurs at this time which is a perfect ph to have canada growth which is a common yeast infection many over-the-counter yeast creams will be beneficial it is often painful itchy and red.

Slightly, yes: The uterus can slightly enlarge prior to the period, but I am not sure that it is perceptible to an examiner. If your MD noticed an enlargement, then it would tend to be a significant finding bearing an explanation from your MD as to what if anything else was detected.

i am having a light menstrual period with cramping after two years of no menstruation. i have recently become sexually active after long period of abstinence. last pap & mammogram 4 months ago normal.

Check with OB: This is probably quite benign but it never hurts to be sure and double check.  Call your gynecologist and ask them what they think.
