Difficult situation: COPD at advanced age is difficult.  You are probably looking at longterm oxygen which has been showing to decrease mortality in the disease.  Make sure your mother's medications are maximized.  Also consider physical therapy or pulmonary rehab to help her physically deal with her illness.

Oxygen: In consultation with her physician, she could be a candidate for oxygen therapy or other inhaled medications.  Ask about daliresp (roflumilast).

Yes: The medicines are called beta-2- agonists which can cause increase in heart rate and open up the the airways but also the blood vessels and yes, flushing and blushing.

Possible anxiety rxn: With a history of asthma, shortness of breath is most often associated with a respiratory iinfection; this would have a lot of coughing.  The symptoms that you describe are most often seen with an anxiety attack.  Your primary doctor or an outpatient clinic is a better choice than an er.  Anxiety, if present, can be confirmed and easily treated.

is it safe to take amitriptyline along with symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) turbo hater and salbutamol or will it have an effect with my asthma. ?

Possible: interaction between amitriptyline and formoterol as both have a minor effect on electrical impulse conduction in the heart.  Notify your doctor that your "QTc interval" may be prolonged on these medicines and that maybe a baseline ekg should be checked. However, s/he may not be concerned since they know more about you. Amitriptyline will not negatively effect asthma control.

Asthalin inhaler: Yes asthalin can be used safely for a one year old.

Yes: In old medical literature there was concerns that antihistamines could potentially cause problems in persons with asthma.  This is not the case and newer generation antihistamines are safe to use with any asthma medication including all inhalers including salbutamol.

use clenil 100mcg 2 puffs 2xday a few mths a year  and use salbutamol 100mcg 1-2 a week in evening,gp given propranolol 10mg twice day for migraineaura(worked last time no sideeffects)gp said just stop clenil.very mildasthma last peak flow 475 agree?

I do not see why: it would be necessary or particularly desirable to stop the Clenil. It is advised that it should not be stopped abruptly but tapered instead. The addition of propranolol could theoretically exacerbate your asthma, why stop the steady state prophylactic therapy in that setting. I do not agree.

my 5yo son is coughing for more than 2 months. he is also having cold&runny nose for 2 months but its a dry cough and no mucus. we visited paediatrician and he has given asthalin for 5 days but no improvement in cough. is there any concern?

Accepted Answer

: Persistent cough is a common sign of mild asthma and Asthalin is a common treatment. If there is no change in the pattern of use the doc suggested, please discuss this with his doc. There are other meds that may be more suitable for his pattern of illness.
