Possible anxiety rxn: With a history of asthma, shortness of breath is most often associated with a respiratory iinfection; this would have a lot of coughing. The symptoms that you describe are most often seen with an anxiety attack. Your primary doctor or an outpatient clinic is a better choice than an er. Anxiety, if present, can be confirmed and easily treated.

Go to ER: You may need to use rescue inhalers as albuterol but if the symptom worsen go to er fast. The faster the symptom worsen the fastest you have to go to the er.
