: Anxiety &amp; stress can cause many different symptoms including types of chest pain like you describe, but it is hard to be sure it is that vs another cause (like acid reflux or some type of infection).  You could try over the counter famotidine (acid blocker) to see if helps, as well as prayer &amp; meditation. Definitely see Dr if nausea/vomiting/dizziness/fever/cough or breathing difficulty.

i have anxiety & i've never been on meds.  i've been very stressed out lately, can anxiety cause sore low/mid back w/ burning arms legs belly & chest?

Sure: We've stopped believing that the brain and the body are unconnected. All of these symptoms are very common with stress. In fact,the gut comes from the same fetal tissue as the nervous system, and is full of nervous tissue. The best way of controlling your symptoms is to control your anxiety. Be careful of muscle relaxants and narcotics, as they are likely to interfere with your anxiety treatment.

A/W Dr. Lofti: To address stress:  talk about feelings ; address problems. Don't avoid them. Aim for 7.5 - 8 hours of sleep/ night. Daily physical activity is optimal in a green space. Eat healthfully. Cut out junk carbs, caffeine ; alcohol (or  moderate). Try qi gong, tai chi, acupuncture, acupressure, homeopathy, meditation, yoga, exercise program, deep breathing exercises or progressive muscle relaxation.

in jan i had bad chest/shoulder pain and went to er. they said anxiety. pain in arm continued for a month. now i can't catch breath, & have itching/burning in upper left part of abs. heart issue ruled out. xanax/ppis don't treat. is it really stress?

Stress: If you have given your Dr all of the information and his examination is normal and basic labs are normal including EKG and your family history of early heart disease or sudden death is negative then not likely heart disease. Attributing it to stress should mean that other causes of chest pain need to be considered. Stress often a wastebasket term we use when don't know what it is.

have burning in upper chest. had ekg, stress test, doppler on heart, ldct scan of lungs. egd. all is goid. but i keep getting this. my egd did not show acid reflux. all blood work great. any clue? it just comes out of the blue. been to er. anxiety???

: Perhaps you should take a medicine to treat heart burn and see if this resolves the chest burning just to be certain it is not due to reflux, even though evidence of this was not seen on endoscopy. There could still be reflux occurring that was not seen. If this does not resolve the issue, perhaps seeing a neurologist to see if there is a chest wall neuropathy that would explain your symptoms.

It could: Psychological stress can cause all kinds of physical symptoms, but before you decide that it is psychological, it is important to rule out any medical problem which could have been brought on by stress or may be causing the symptoms. Get a physical and speak to your physician. If they find no medical causation or think you simply need to learn some stress reduction techniques, find a psychologist.

Definitely: Stress & anxiety can cause almost any symptom you can think of and affect everyone differently. The key to controlling it is to control the stress and reduce anxiety. There are some short-term meds that might be in order but the best results come with working with a therapist to learn to control the stress. See your md for a referal for help.
