Many Symptoms!: The real problem with ovarian cancer is the lack of specific symptoms!. Bloating, gas discomfort, fatigue, a vague feeling of not being quite well, wt gain or loss, urinary frequency, etc, etc. An ultrasound is good to pinpoint cysts, ectopic preg, and cancer and an MRI or ct scan can complement an ultrsound reading. As health care professionals we are still in the infancy of n ca detection!

Yes possible: Diagnosis of ovarian cancer is a complex process , from family history , to examination by gyn doctor , various preliminary  tests , MRI can miss small lesions. Speak to your gyn doctor , and go for regular visits.

Talk to you doctor about whether a diagnostic laparoscopy might help shed additional light on the nature of your pain.  Endometriosis is one example of a pain-related diagnosis that is hard to document on scans and on lab work.

More details: You will need to contact the ordering physician and ask for clarification. It is physiologically normal for most women to have some fluid in the cut de sac. You will need to have the doctor interpret your specific sonogram report to find out if yours was normal.  If your sister has ovarian cancer you may qualify for BRCA genetic testing.
