1. Eating sugar
2. Not eating often enough
3. Not eating protein often enough

It should not: When your pancreas and liver are functioning properly, fasting should not cause hypoglycemia.  If fasting causes hypoglycemia in you, you should be seen by your endocrinologist for further evaluation. Frequently we find there wasn't true hypoglycemia and something else was happening.

Multiple causes: The most common cause of hypoglycemia (low blood glucose) is use of diabetes drugs (such as Insulin or sulfonylureas). There are also many other forms of hypoglycemia: due to organ underfunctioning (adrenal, pituitary, heart, liver, kidney, thyroid), other drugs (beta blockers, salicylates, etc), tumors (insulin- and non-insulin secreting), post-meal (dumping syndrome, reactive), among others....

Eat: Hypoglycemia is low blood sugar.  To deal with the immediate situation simply eating will help. If you are diabetic and on medication it may require a dosage adjustment of your meds.  If not diabetic and it persists, please talk to your health care provider to be evaluated.

How was it diagnosed: The incidence of true hypoglycemia in younger people is actually quite small. Was it actually diagnosed by measuring your blood sugar level? If so then you should see an endocrinologist. If not then i would contact your primary care doctor for a checkup.
