is it too bad to lie down immediately after meals for acid reflux sufferers due to hernia i can't sit after meals i get pressure in my chest if i sit?

Elevate about 30 deg: You may not have to sit up.  Elevating the head of the bed about 30 degrees can help your symptoms.  You can for this easily by putting some bricks under the head of your bed.  Try to avoid lays down completely for 2 - 3 hours after eating.

chewing gum (orbit brand containing speramint , aspartame), taken after meals can be good to avoid  acid reflux?

Acid reflux: aspartame sweetener is not good for acid reflux.  Peppermint capsules swallowed twice per day can help.  Do not eat late, and avoid alcohol.  If you are overweight then lose wt. and because acid reflux can happen at night, best to elevate the head of the bed six inches.  Do not smoke.

brushing my teeth with pronamel lightly 3 times a day after meals and flossing bc they are sensitive. am i doing more harm than good? acid reflux tip?

Tips: Brushing and flossing properly after meals is a good regimen. Speak to your PCP or GI Specialist about any acid reflux issues. Discuss proper oral hygiene techniques with your own dentist who can personally examine you and monitor your dental health.

i get some regular acid reflux,dyspepsia,gas.taking protonix & vsl#3 but for last 2 wks some nausea/discomfort during meals & bit after still. once i get some burps.things settles perfect.no pain when swallow.appetite-ok.no belly pain.anytng serious?

Unlikely: If you have been outside of the US you may need to be tested for a stomach infection called H.Pylori.

Take antacids: Acid reflux is relatively easy condition to treat. But you need to know(read up) about the various medicines which are useful. Tums is too old fashioned as  it works only for a very short time. More modern drugs like Zantac, Pepcid or Prilosec work much better and provide relief for 12 to 24 hours. They are available over the counter but in half strength...so take 2 pills at a time.

GERD: These symptoms are classic symptoms of GERD and Hiatal Hernia. You seem at risk for complications -- heartburn, esophagitis, ulcer, transformation of esophageal mucosal tissue into atypical tissue, and aspiration.  Needs remedy.

About what?: Keep her on the medications if the symptoms have resolved and check with her doctor to see if you can start taking some off.

It's Not Ur Reflux: Gerd will cause heartburn; it will never cause pain below the navel. It's hard to know what's causing your pain w/o a formal evaluation: you cannot replace a thorough history, physical exam, lab +/- x-ray tests with a few sentences. I recommend that you see a primary care doctor for a formal evaluation v.

: Yes, acid reflux can cause nausea which can stimulate the vagus nerve causing lightheartedness or dizziness.

BALANCE AND NO BOOZE: For reflux, avoid alcohol and tobacco, carbonation, and large meals. Don't lie down after meals for a couple hours.  For the acute inflammation of diverticulitis, you should eat a lower residue diet, but once the inflammation has subsided, you may eat almost anything.  I recommend avoiding peanuts and popcorn, and try to incorporate some fibre, as well.Keep hydrated.  Good luck.
