can a urine test detect if i have hba1c?

Accepted Answer

No: Hga1c is a blood test only.  The only useful urine test in this setting is to look for the presence of glucose.  Glucose is only seen in the urine if the level in the blood is high.

i have foamy urine for a few months intermittently. am diabetic (6.2 hba1c). no microalbumin in 24 hour and spot urine test. what could be the problem?

Foamy urine: I am not sure of the cause of foamy urine  a kidney specialist would be helpful.
Regarding A1c at 6.2 you are doing OK. That said, you must get to work with a top notch Endocrinologist who will work diligently with you to get rid of diabetes for ever. Yes, it can and should happen!

Poor control!: Hi. Those numbers mean you're in really poor control and the diabetes (and probably blood pressure) may have already done some early kidney damage. Get your diabetes (and blood pressure and lipids) in tight control to prevent or delay REALLY BAD outcomes! It's the best time in history for treating diabetes! Don't lose the opportunity to save eyes, kidneys, feet, heart, etc. And see an eye doctor!

Abnormal urinalysis: Leukocytes, nitrates and bacteria in urine with dysuria will indicate urinary infection and usually treated with antibiotics.

A1C: Diet and excersize, aerobic if tolerated, with or without weight loss goals depending on the patient.

Low potassium diet: Avoid potatoes, tomato sauce, squash, oranges, bananas. But, it is important to know why your potassium is high? Kidney disease? Medications? You did not mention your creatinine level. Check with your doctor. It is likely that you are taking ace inhibitors like lisinopril, other ....Prils? Also if you have swelling, cautious water pill use can be a safe way to decrease potassium levels.

Check meds: There are some medications that can elevate potassium in blood, such as ace inhibitors, arbs, some water pills. Check with your pcp if you are taking  any of those. And make sure you have blood repeated, since hemolysis can falsely elevate potassium.

Doing well overall: Your blood work appears good and you have trace proteinuria which is common in diabetic kidney disease. Keep your diabetes and blood pressure in good control. You also will need to take lisinopril, losartan or something similar to prevent and delay kidney damage from diabetes.
