Diabetes: Blood sugar of 36?  Are you sure? She would probably be unconscious if her sugar was that low, meaning she should be in a hospital. Low blood sugar usually means the dose of her Insulin needs to be adjusted. That is dangerously low.

Pathophysiology: While exercise is helpful in everyone, it's not the main treatment for you.  You are a type 1 diabetic, so you have diabetes because your body is not making enough insulin.  The main treatment is to find the right Insulin regimen for you.  If you wake up with bad sugars, it might be because your basal rate is too low, not because you are not exericising enough or eat the right food.

You can't: Maintain a normal sugar by eating snacks. Eat three well-balanced meals per day, exercise and take appropriate Insulin before each meal and basal Lantus (insulin glargine) at bedtime. Your endocrinologist and the other members of your diabetes care team can help you with this.

so it is telling you to eat in order to bring up blood sugar.
