Accepted Answer

It shouldn't: Small umbilical hernias that cause no symptoms are quite common and can be watched without risk.  If the military examiner feels the hernia should be repaired, it still should not interfere with your military service.

: If the docs did not act means it might not be of concern. Should you worry then have it repaired.  precautions are sudden heavy exertion or lifting very heavy weights

i have a small umbilical hernia & i have to get my gallbladder taken out. is it safe to have the symptoms with the hernia?  & can they see my ovaries too?

Accepted Answer

Yes: It is very common to have a small umbilical hernia repaired at the same time you have a laparoscopic gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy). It is not a routine practice to examine ovaries during gallbladder surgery, however, it is technically possible. Have this discussion with your surgeon. He/she may want to have a gynecologist available.

would having a circumaortic renal collar effect surgery for a small umbilical hernia repair?

Accepted Answer

It should not.: Umbilical hernia repair is a superficial surgery to the abdominal wall and should not be affected by an internal problem such as circumaortic renal collar.  Circumaortic renal collar can be hazardous in retroperitoneal surgery (surgery involving the posterior part of the abdominal cavity), and then usually only if it is not previous known about.  Umbilical hernias are located anteriorly.

how do you treat or reverse a small umbilical hernia where no protrusion has occurred? a doctor i went to said no surgeon would work on it yet.

Accepted Answer

Suture repair if any: A small hernia without symptoms can remain untreated surgically. This is a for a 'fingertip' sized painless hernia without protrusion.

i used to go to the gym and lift weights but i feel discomfort and the ct shows a small umbilical hernia of 0.5cm only herniating while straining ... what should i do and can i go to the gym ?

Accepted Answer

: You can wear a protective belt over it before lifting. But if there is increase in size or pain you will need it to be repaired. Avoid sudden heavy exertions

Yes: If you are still having discomfort, you can see a General Surgeon for consultation to determine if the hernia is the cause of your pain and if/when surgery is recommended to fix the hernia.

You should have: your surgeon take a look at it, if you are concerned about your post op status.  Sometime, especially in men, a condition called diastasis can mimic hernia recurrence.

i had a recent ct scan showing no damage to the pelvis or penile arteries. all i have is a small umbilical hernia. what is the likely cause of my ed? i'm 31 years old male, testosterone under/around 400. 5'9 160 pounds. cannot get full erection?

Accepted Answer

: There are many reasons for ED including hormonal disruptions, poor diet, stress, medications, etc. These issues do not show up on a CT scan. I would follow up with a family doctor to thoroughly investigate the list of potential triggers.

Accepted Answer

: The pressurized cabin of your regular commercial aircraft re-creates the same environment you have at ground level. I would not consider the cited defect any reason not to fly in that setting.
