can a patient have mouth surgery while he has oral thrush?

Accepted Answer

Probably not: But the decision will be made by the oral surgeon.  The concern is that thrush does not usually occur in a normal adult.  You should have your immune system checked carefully and also be tested for hiv.  Good luck.

after my gall bladder surgery with complications i got thrush in my mouth andin my throat and everywhere is there anything natural that would work?

Sometimes yogurt: I would guess part of the complications required some extended antibiotic therapy. If so, most of the "good bugs" that regularly live in the mouth, throat, intestines, and vagina have been killed as well, thus allowing the yeast which is not affected by antibiotics to take over.Adding probiotics, yogurt, & buttermilk can help.

how long does it take for oral thrush to go away while on nystatin? its been 5 days and it seems to have improved but not gone yet. im taking 2ml 4x daily for 10 days. should i be patient or do i need a pill?

Confirm diagnosis: The first thing is to be certain the diagnosis is correct. Oral yeast infections (thrush) are not common except in people who have recently been on antibiotics, are on immune-supresssing drugs, or otherwise immune deficient, e.g. AIDS, chemotherapy etc. A coated tongue, for example, usually is not yeast. Check back with your doctor on this. Good luck!

why would the floor of my mouth be white? under my tounge where the ferlum is instead of red... its under my tongue and its not like oral thrush.. so what else could cause that?

Leukoplakia : Leukoplakia can cause areas of the mouth under the tongue to be white, this can be caused by complication side effects of chewing tobacco

: Both conditions are rarely the cause of oral thrush unless you are taking antibiotic(s) for a long period of time.
You need a thorough workup for the definite cause of oral thrush (oral candidiasis) if you are not on long term antibiotic.

Define "always": Everyone ingests the yeast that causes thrush sporadically (it is everywhere). It becomes about 5% of the dry weight of poop. If you don't see a skim-milk or thicker layer of this on gums &amp; other oral tissues it wouldn't be diagnostic for thrush. You likely have the germ in your moth sporadically as everyone does, but the odd tastes you mention are likely something else.

: The thin gray film may be food/liquid debris and not thrush at all. It is not at a level I would consider any treatment needed. Discuss this with your doc or dentist. You may just need to brush your tongue occasionally if it bothers you.

Yes: Oral thrush can be quite painful, especially in the early stages. Pl make sure u get the right treatment and follow up with your doctor to make sure it clears up. There are things u can do to avoid it. and get full physical if needed. Feel good!

Oral Thrush: Is itself painful; smoking will cause dry mouth and more discomfort. Get treatment of thrush, reduce or stop smoking if possible.

Newborn:"Thrush" ?: It is best to have a pediatrician examine your 3 wks. old infant.  There are infections which can appear similar to "thrush".
