No: No, many will not. Ct with kidney stone protocol is much more sensitive. Rarely, certain stones are not seen even with a ct.

Very unlikely: Detail not good enough for polyps, but if a colon cancer has obstructing signs, it may give clues on KUB, suggesting other more detailed studies, i.e. CT.

Need to know: Why there is hydronephrosis. Most small stones pass by themselves without surgery. Stones over 5 mm may require treatment to pass. There are other causes of hydronephrosis (other than stones) and how the issue is dealt with depends on the specifics of the obstruction.

Kidney stone: A kidney stone in the ureter may be seen on a plain film, but other radiographic modalities are better such as an IVP, CT scan, or ultrasound.  You may have some blood in the urine as the stone passes through the urethral system.  If you still have pain and have not passed the stone, follow up with your doc, as you may need lithotripsy or some procedure to break up the stone and allow it to pass.

ct kub reports say that left kidney shows mild thinning of the upper pole cortex may be due to focal nephritis.  should i be worried?

CT scan is better: Ct scan is now preferred test for kidney stones. Radio opaque stone can be seen on kub is the stone is big enough for x ray; ct can detect smaller ones. 
Ivp rarely being used.

my urologist noted my kidney stones look dense b/c they show as bright on the kub. what does this mean? i'm scheduled for eswl soon. can it blast them

Stone is made of cal: Stones are made of a variety of chemical compounds. Most have calcium within them which makes them bright on an x-ray. The more calcium or the larger they are, the brighter they appear. Assuming  the stone is large enough for the doctor to localize, yes it can be blasted.

persistent urge to urinate. no other issues. done usg (whole abdomain), kub, urine test and urine c/s. reports are normal but usg shows suggestive of cystitis (lower level echoes seen in bladder lumen). but no uti found. what should i do?

: Ultra sound is not the way to diagnose UTI. or cystitis. Avoid spicy food and excess of caffeine. Drink water and try to divert your attention when you get the urge. If this does not help see a Urologist for you may need medication.

Cystoscopy is an: Examinatiom of bladder from the inside. It will show inflammation (cystitis) and polyps or tumor which the xray or ct scan wouldnt show.
