Yes....: Most medications to treat blood clots work by keeping the clots from getting bigger while your own body dissolves the clot. So, if a clot is not increasing in size, your body's natural system will slowly dissolve the clot.

It varies: The amount of time for a deep vein thrombosis to resorb varies tremendously, and some patients never fully do resorb their dvt.  Thank you for your question.

DVT lysis: I am going to assume you are describing catheter directed thrombolysis. Leg pain and swelling can persist for some time but should improve.  I would need to know more but a follow up ultrasound is standard to ascertain that the clot is stable or improving.  Are you being anti coagulated? Are you wearing compression? You should certainly follow up with the provider who performed your thrombolysis.

Possibly never: If you had a DVT a year ago and continue to have swelling due to damage to the deep vein valves, you may have to wear compression hose for the forseeable future. There currently is no technology or treatment that can restore deep vein valve function, although many teams are working on the problem.

It may never go away: Swelling in the legs following an acute DVT can take several days to weeks to resolve if properly managed with anticoagulation and use of compression stockings. An often ignored consequence of DVT is post-thrombotic syndrome, which often includes leg swelling, and occurs because of damage to the veins which had a dvt. This is also managed by compression, however, will never go away.

The fact: That you are on both drugs suggests this is a new diagnosis. The swelling improves in weeks.  In severe DVT the valves in the veins can be permanently damaged and this leads to some degree of swelling which is permanent.

DVT.: Unfortunately, even when a DVT is completely treated, the vein that was involved is never the same.  And as such, it may be difficult to prove by ultrasound that the DVT is fixed, if you will. As well, the involved leg may always and forever have some swelling as the vein involved remains functionally compromised.

Calf pain: Dvtcan occur in anyone with correct circumstances. Suggest urgent medical attention. A potentially life threatening event.

Depends: You would be at high risk if you recently traveled and were immobile for a period of time or if there is a family history of clotting disorders or blood clots. If you have significant swelling in 1leg and pain in the calf then it should be checked.
