Symptoms: should dictate how you proceed from this point if you have significant arthritis any arthroscopic procedures would be of very limited benifit. If you have mechanical symptoms then arthroscopic intervention may be helpful.  your options depend on the overall condition of your knee you should discuss this with your orthopedic surgeon

: torn from accident or without accident? all things will heal (I had it at 69yo and it healed) but your weight make it doubtful to heal adequately for good function and painless activity. do you have also high blood pressure or diabetes? lack of activity at your age and all illnesses altogether put your longevity at severe risk. Please go veggies like me as I had very high cholesterol + high sugar

The : The torn meniscus came first. An MRI is an excellent tool but is not perfect. If the baker's cyst was present so did the meniscal injury. A meniscal tear causes the baker's cyst. The collagen fibers of the meniscus are arranged in a parallel arrangement and a tear creates a communication with the capsule and serves as a one way valve to create the cyst.

Meniscus tear: If it is primarily arthritis, synovitis, and just a degenerative fraying of theme miscues, the cortisone may help the surrounding inflammation. If a truly large tear with mechanical symptoms, get a scope.

Other findings: At age 58, one may have had more than meniscus damage.  There is a great chance that you had significant articular cartilage damage that could be inhibiting your recovery.  Recommend anti-inflammatory and pool therapy.  If no better, need to go back and see the operating surgeon.

No: Cortisone is an anti-inflammatory medication so it will decrease or mask the effects of inflammation such as pain or swelling, but it will not fix a tear.  Inflammation is one of the first signs of an injury.  Pain and swelling is a fire alarm signalling your naturally made agents of healing to come to the injured area to initiate healing.  Steroids can turn off that alarm and slow healing.

No: Cortizone relieve inflammation and I am glad that you feel better. However, the success of the injection does not reveal the pathology. In other words, it could be a torn meniscus, it could be one cartilage, it could be inflammation of the lining, etc.
