Diet Myths: Nope. That is the opposite of healthy.  Good science now supports that following recommended composition of your calories: 60% from proteins
25% from carbohydrates (complex better than simple) and:
15% from fats (vegetable fats better than animal fats).

Ratio of foods: Ahhh, the classic answer is 40/30/30. That is 40% carbs, 30% fat, 30% protein. But i disagree. Much more important is to eliminate sweets and starches, getting 100% of carbs from non-starch vegetables and a small amt. Of fruit. The eat a modest amt. Of protein. This way there is no counting, measuring or weighing and weight control is a snap. Just don't be in denial of what you're eating.

Your BMI is 23 which  is normal.  At age 16 I would not restrict calories (1900 calories  a day is low) if you have a normal BMI- as you are still growing .  Discuss w/ your pediatrician

Nuts may be best bet: Don't know whether you are looking for snack or regular foods.  Of course meat would be the obvious answer, but nuts contain very good fats as well as significant protein. Almonds and walnuts are probably best.  So do cheeses.  Of course they have calories, but you do need fats and calories at your age to continue to develop normally.

Zone diet : If you're trying to lose weight and improve your muscle tone  i suggest trying zone type diet which includes 40% carbohydrates 40% lean protein and 40% healthy fish or  plant-based fat. This is closer to the paleo diet that crossfit suggests except on the paleo diets you're not allowed to have any dairy or starch.

Depends on weight .: activity level and maturity rating, as your body may still be growing, and to limit vital nutrients can have long term problems.  I would suggest a minimum of 1500 cal/day, but supplement with multivitamin. Focus on vegetables, lean meats, fat free dairy and fruits and limit sugars &amp;"white carbs" such as white rice, pasta, white bread.

Genetics mostly: Some people have inherited rapid metabolisms that convert food (even junk) into immediate sources of energy with relatively little long term storage. : Prominent abs would be a finding for those with ~10% fat percentage. To get there may require training with a nutritionist and physical trainer. You need to maintain high quality protein/carbs and essential fats at a calorie intake that would let you drop the 20 lb of fat required.
