Signs : Signs of a blood clot include calf aching, cramping, swelling, and sometimes pain in the upper leg or even groin.  Pain is usually worse when the leg is hanging down.  The pain is in the soft part of the lower leg.  Chest pain and shortness of breath are signs of a clot that has gone to the lungs.  Risk factors for deep venous thrombosis include oral contraceptives use, blood disorders such as factor c, s, or other blood disorders, family history, obesity, immobilization such as in a cast or a patient at bedrest, and travel.   Diagnosis is made by an ultrasound study (duplex) of the leg.

See a doctor: The knot in your calf should be examined by a doctor. In the meantime, stop stretching as it's not helping at this point. Most likely you have a tear in your calf muscle, which would need some time to heal. But there are other possibilities such as blood clots. If the pain is severe, skip the prom and go see a doctor today. While waiting to be seen, rest, keep your leg elevated, and ice it.

Bakers cyst: This is most likely a baker's cyst.  This is a pouch of joint fluid collecting behind the knee.  It can occur with most types of arthritis and with repetitive squatting.  The most common cause is osteoarthritis.  There are other more dangerous causes of a lump in this area.  You should see your doctor to get a definite diagnosis.  If you have calf pain and leg swelling go directly to the er.

Multiple factors:: low potassium, low calcium, muscle overuse, trauma, dehydration are common causes. Massage with Bio-Freeze and stretch by pulling toes toward your chest or stand and lift your up using foot and toes ( calf stretch), I suggest electrolyte rich drinks ( Powerade, Gatorade, Vitamin Water, Pedialyte) and calcium tablets ( Caltrate)

Doubtful: Classic findings with blood clot is increased pain and tenderness with stretching of the calf muscle. If the stretching of the gastrocnemius  and solieus muscles improves the discomfort than that would be evidence against a blood clot

DVT: Redness, tension and swelling along with pain in the calf after being stationary (sitting or laying for long periods) could indicate a blood clot has formed in the leg. This is an urgent scenario which should be evaluated by an urgent care Dr or in an ED. If there is a blood clot in the leg, the danger is that pieces of it will break off and travel to the brain and cause a stroke.
