The best example of allergy vs intolerance is milk. Milk has protein (casein and whey),sugar (lactose) and fat.  Only protein (with a few exceptions) can induce a true IgE mediated response. There is no reason to do such a test unless you have an allergic issue, either asthma, rhinitis, gastritis, anaphylaxis, or a skin reaction.
