Not likely: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor. If you are overweight it is imperative that you lose weight through diet and exercise.

i h bursitis in knee & rheumatoid arthritis. i had steroid shot. it did not help. can't the bursa be drained or does it hv 2 b a certain degree be4 it can be drained? i rub valtaren on it/no help. it hurts. what cd b next step? any suggestions? tks?

: The next step would be to see your treating rheumatologist or the doc who gave you the shot to further question diagnostic ( bursitis/arthritis/ others)  with imaging studies and tighten pain control. If not enough fluid, attempting draining it may be unsuccessful.

See below: All  depend where the inflamed bursae is located.The origen could be inflamatory in nature(autoimmune diseases) or mechanical(something is irritating the bursae due to chronic friction)could be traumatic also such as collisions in sports.

Moderate: This is usually treated fairly easily with drainage and antibiotics. It depends somewhat of the specific bursa involved. Some communicate with the knee joint and some do not. I assume you are speaking about the prepatellar bursa which sits on top of the kneecap.

Hard to say: It could be recurrent bursitis although pain in the back of the knee would not be typical. Would thing about a ruptured baker cyst and any pain there raises the suspicion of a blood clot. If it persists you should see your doctor.

Inflamation: "ITIS" is a reflection many times of " too much ,too quickly" Thus in the lower extremities it is common to see multiple affects sites . RICE is basic , but one needs to assess what they r doing too much of to create the problem. Many times u are helped by decreasing the activity, then slowly titrating upwards to gain the desired amount of time spent doing the activity.

No: Bursitis is inflammation of the bursa in your knee, which serves as a cushion for the joint.  Water retention will typically not manifest in the joint, but rather in relation to your lymphatic system.
