In certain cultures: this means either you are going to come into a large sum of money or you are going to have your car towed.  Burning discomfort in the wrist associated with repetitive motions and numbness or parasthesias in the thumb, and first 2-3 fingers usually is due to irritation or compression of the median nerve. (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome) If no injury rash has occurred I would ret it and see if it resolves.

NO: If you do a lot of texting or typing you may be getting inflammation at the base of your thumb.  This is due to overuse of the thumb joint by the wrist.

Paresthesias: There are several possibilities depending on the precise distribution of the symptoms. Google separately images for ulnar nerve, median nerve and dermatomes.  See which ones match best his symptoms.  If these don't precisely fit the problem could also be in the spinal cord or brain. Have an evaluation by a neurologist to further help.

Could be nerve root: Your description sounds like a cervical nerve root problem.  Injury to the peripheral nerves exiting from your neck can cause pain, paresthesias (pins and needles), numbness, and/or weakness.  You would benefit from a consultation with your doctor to delve into this issue further.  Good luck to a quick recovery.

PCP: This particular problem is not going to be able to be answered on this site.  My recommendation would be to see her pcp and she will probably need lab work and x-ray and examination to make an accurate diagnosis.  This could be anywhere between carpal tunnel syndrome and osteoarthritis.

Possibly a ganglion.: Ganglion cysts are swellings of the linings of the sheaths around the nerves or tendons, arising usually after some form of trauma (which might just be a sharp yank or twist).  They can get bigger and smaller as they fill and empty with fluid as part of the inflammatory response.  The pain comes from the space they take up.  They are seen with mri. If not this, have the nerves evaluated w/ emg.

Many causes: Paresthesias can be due to many reasons including diabetic neuropathy, nerve compression, systemic disease, vitamin deficiency, and alcoholism. If the tingling becomes more bothersome or you experience new symptoms, see your primary care physician. Probably not serious: Veins anywhere in the body usually  cause no symptoms unless they have a problem such as a clot, inflammation or trauma.  There are also many nerves in your hand which can cause similar symptoms.  If your vein was the source of the burning it should show some signs of irritation such as swelling, hardness, red color or inflammation.  Try local care with heat and ibuprofen. If no better, see an md.
