Post Op: It is common, especially in the inguinal area, to pull or irritate the mesh or scar tissue from a previous hernia repair. This sensation should ease over the next few days.

Probably normal: These types of "tension" repairs are often associated with pain for 4-6 weeks. On rare occasions, chronic pain of varying levels can develop. If you think something is wrong, see your surgeon for a follow up exam. Not a problem: There are no current recommendations to avoid masturbation after hernia repair. Be sure that you may experience some discomfort, but this is definitely safe. Do not be afraid.

Not Uncommon: Two months after hernia repair your body is still healing--the pain you are describing is understandable. However, this pain should lessen in time--if it is getting worse, it would be wise to return to see your surgeon. Occasionally, nerves are irritated by this operation that can be blocked if chronic pain develops.

i have been experiencing a burning or stabbing pain 3 weeks after inguinal hernia surgery. it comes and goes a few times a day. is this normal?

Not really: Call your doctor, surgeon to let her/him know of this. You want to make sure the mesh is in place and not out of place stabbing you, or pushing on something that it shouldn't be. You have 90 days of post op care that's prepaid with your surgery. So, don't delay. Your surgeon needs to know this information. Good luck!

Inguinal hernia: its very well possible. Probably what you are experiencing is scar tissue or mesh or both affecting / irritating the inguinal nerve.
