This forms an abnormal bony bump at the base of the big toe and an enlargement of the big toe joint.  This can be hereditary or from other disease e.g. Arthritis etc.

Bunion : I would see a board certified podiatric surgeon or orthopod. Have xrays and an evaluation. I would try and treat it without surgery first. If its still painful that surgery would be a an option. If your not having pain i would not have surgery. You also want to make sure your have a orthotic made and wear a proper sized shoe.

Conservative means you can either do nothing or use an orthotic to help the deformity from increasing. Wearing accommodative shoes is also included. Radical means you have it surgically corrected. The decision is  personal and based on different criteria for different people and situations.
