Parotid tumor: Good chance its a tumor of the parotid gland. Especially if it's been there awhile. See an ENT surgeon for evaluation.

Jaw vs parotid: Could be a growth either on your lower jaw or parotid gland. Either should be examined. See either an oral surgeon or ENT doc for examination ASAP.

??? Lymph node: Sounds like a lymph node which can get larger and smaller normally.  Only an exam can give you a better idea, if a Dr. touches it him/her self.  These normally feel rubbery, and move around a little bit.  Best not to always rub it as this can make it stay enlarged.

Need to see it: This is a pretty vague description. Are these bumps on the skin or under the skin? What do they look like? Are they painful? Skin stuff generally needs to be seen to tell what it is.

i have a strange 'bump' on my upper neck below the ear just next to where the jaw  starts. it's under the skin and hurts a bit (projecting to the ear). what can it be?

Cyst: It sounds as if you have a sebacous cyst.  Your doctor will most likelt have to drain it.

Do not panic but..: ...See your doc as soon as you can. If it happened in the setting of an infection, it may be a reactive lymph node and it may take a while to go but I do not like your description of it being rock hard. Get a good exam.

Possible lymph node: In that location, there are several structures that could cause pain - dental, salivary gland or lymph node.  Given the location and your age, it is likely to be a swollen lymph gland, either due to some bacterial or viral infection. If you don't have problems with dental hygiene, you may see an otolaryngologist (ear, nose, throat specialist), if the pain persists more than a few days.
