Rest &amp; time: Unfortunately, there is no specific treatment for rib injuries. Any type of strapping or taping leads to complications such as pneumonia without aiding in recovery. Time, over the counter medications such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen, and gradually increasing activity as your discomfort allows is the treatment.

Sounds like: ruptured tendon, but you need to see a doctor to make sure that it is not thrombophlebitis, especially if you have risk factors such as birth control pills,smoking, protracted immobility, or recent surgery.  This can lead to a pulmonary embolus, a potentially life threatening problem.

Thoracic compression: You have sustained a throracic compression fracture--pain should be better 3-4 yrs later.
you should try some physical therapy who has an interest in spines.
the procedure called kyphoplasty which involves putting some cement into your disc space---is less and less in favor now.
hopefully some core strengthening and stretching exercises will help

I'm concerned: Any recent travel or sick contacts with similar symptoms. You could have a virus or infection. My concern could be Ebola. I would call the local emergency room  and 911 to transfer you to the hospital for work up. The paramedics can give you masks and gowns to protect you and prevent any spread if you have the virus. Only if you think: Only if you think the injury to cause the bruising may have been forceful enough to fracture a bone.  If you are on a blood thinner like warfarin, this can lead to bone density loss and make you more susceptible to a fracture.  The pain can be a good guide to severity of injury.  If in doubt, check it out.
