i got my ear tugged really hard during wrestling. will it be ok?

Depends: Did the injury involve a tear of the ear lobe or a bruise/contusion?  If so, this needs to bee seen as a contusion/hematoma will likely need to be drained so that the cartilage in the ear is not destroyed and a laceration needs obvious repair.  If you just has some tenderness and no hematoma or laceration, watch and if worsens, seek medical care.

ok so last night i was wrestling with my friend (not rough) his knee barely hit my ear and it kind of hurts i can barely hear out of it and humming?

Ear drum injury?: On occasion, a minor trauma to the ear can result in a ruptured ear drum. Some dysfunction of the inner ear is another possibility. why is my brothers ear purple? it looked all bruised up, just wondered what causes that

Purple ears: This may be from venous blood in prominent veins of the ears or may be acrocyanosis seen in people with chronic lung disease or cold exposure.. It is not as concerning as central cyanosis seen on the lips which associated with low oxygen saturation(under 90%) due to poor circulation.

on the left side of my head above the ear i have been getting a on an off pain.  it feels like a bruise and sensitive to touch?

It may actually be : a small contusion caused by minor trauma that you don't remember. It is really not unusual to get a bump on the head while sleeping--on bed frame for example. It would be safe to watch for a few days. You probably don't need pain killers I would guess.If it persists 2-3 weeks or more, see your doctor for evaluation. Remote possibilities include migraine or neuropathy/? nerve impingement. Stay well

NO!: A bruised ear in a 5 month old needs immediate evaluation.  This may be associated with physical abuse.  Don't wait-see your doctor today.

Heads up!: Head trauma can be tricky.  Things ER doctors worry about are loss of consciousness, bleeding, confusion or neurological issues.  If you have been hit in the head and the inside of the ears are purple, you may actually have a skull fracture.  There are many other things your doctor can look for that may indicate fractures/bleeding and given the symptoms you have, I'd get it checked out.

how long will it take a bruised nerve  in my head, near the back of my right ear to heal? been suffering for almost two weeks. thanks

Depends: Damage to the nerve can recover within a few weeks if the problem requires simple localized re-myelination of the nerve sheath. If the nerve axon was injured it takes longer to heal. (Wallerian degeneration followed by re-sprouting of the nerve axon and successful navigation down the hollow nerve sheath back to its original location.) This depends on the distance the nerve has to "travel" (months)

i got hit behind the ear and i have a bruise that looks like a hickey. hurts to shake my head side to side. should i be worried or is it nothing?

Bone bruise: This sounds like a mild bone bruise that will be tender for several days. I wouldn't worry unless you have worsening headaches, dizziness, drowsines vomiting, or hearing problems.

my 5 year old slipped while exiting a waterslide and hit the side of her head. a few days later i noticed a red bruise behind her ear. please advise?

Concussion?: Did she lose consciousness?   Any memory issues? Headaches?    Was she evaluated?   The red bruise doesn't really bother me.  I just wonder about her brain.   If in doubt, take her to the doctor.

just discovered toddler top of ear and towards back is very bruised looking- its bright red, purple and black. didn't hurt it that i know. doesnt hurt?

Accepted Answer

Probably a bruise: Toddlers have a high tolerance for pain and are constantly injuring themselves so he may not have noticed a bruised ear.  If you have any suspicions that he may have been abused or if the marks do not fade you take him to your physician.
