my 2 year old has a bruise on her ear lobe, what to do?

Bruise: Now that the bruise is already there, there's nothing to do other than let it heal on it's own. More importantly would be to find out how he got the bruise as a way of learning how to prevent future, perhaps even more serious, injuries.

ER trip maybe.: This blow has affected your spelling. If it is affecting vision, balance, sensation, strength or speech; or if pain is increasing you need an exam and possibly a brain scan. External bruising is not a reflection of internal (brain) injury. Neurologic symptoms are.

Yes: Both inside and outside, scratching the ears too vigorously can cause bruising. If you bruise easily anywhere on the body, you should be seen by a doctor to make sure you don't have something else going on as well.

Purple ears: This may be from venous blood in prominent veins of the ears or may be acrocyanosis seen in people with chronic lung disease or cold exposure.. It is not as concerning as central cyanosis seen on the lips which associated with low oxygen saturation(under 90%) due to poor circulation.

It may actually be : a small contusion caused by minor trauma that you don't remember. It is really not unusual to get a bump on the head while sleeping--on bed frame for example. It would be safe to watch for a few days. You probably don't need pain killers I would guess.If it persists 2-3 weeks or more, see your doctor for evaluation. Remote possibilities include migraine or neuropathy/? nerve impingement. Stay well

Heads up!: Head trauma can be tricky.  Things ER doctors worry about are loss of consciousness, bleeding, confusion or neurological issues.  If you have been hit in the head and the inside of the ears are purple, you may actually have a skull fracture.  There are many other things your doctor can look for that may indicate fractures/bleeding and given the symptoms you have, I'd get it checked out.

Depends: Damage to the nerve can recover within a few weeks if the problem requires simple localized re-myelination of the nerve sheath. If the nerve axon was injured it takes longer to heal. (Wallerian degeneration followed by re-sprouting of the nerve axon and successful navigation down the hollow nerve sheath back to its original location.) This depends on the distance the nerve has to "travel" (months)
