You need an: x-ray to be decided . Some kind of metatarsal fracture can take up to 8 weeks to heal.

Two possibilities...: There are two different things that may explain this. The first is that you sustained an injury to your toes when you fractured your fifth metatarsal. Alternatively, you may have had some drainage of the blood from the area of the fractured into your toes.

Please don't: Make your health your priority. Recommend that you go back up to at least 1,200 calories per day. Going in the hole by 500 calories per day will not help healing. Please discuss this with your physician.

Yes: Swimming is great exercise, and as long as you do not put weight on the affected foot you should be fine.
Ps don't forget to remove the boot.

Break in period..: There are breaks and then there are breaks. Without knowing the severity of the fracture, stress or otherwise, it is impossible to assign a treatment regimen. No matter what the degree of injury, it would be most wise to avoid weight bearing as much as possible and use the crutches with the boot.

i broke my 5th metatarsal, got cast, no surgery was needed, after removing the cast within 3 weeks i notice that when i put my foot down it becomes dark red and purple, after i elevate it within 5sec it goes back to its natural color, is this normal?

Thrombus rule out: There may be a circulation problem and an ultrasound may be performed of your lower extremities to rule out a thrombus formation ( DVT). Sometimes after cast removal the skin may discolor. Especially if there is edema, DVT should be considered and ruled out.
The other causes may include an infection, watch for fever, rash, swelling and drainage.

Because of the: fracture. You may have a bruise for up to a year. It  means nothing.

Walking boot : is a good way to heal that fracture you need to Rest drink milk and repeat the x ray in 8  wks the 5th metatarsal fracture is difficult to heal in general due to poor blood supply in the region
