Same cost: The price of dental procedures will cost the same amout whether you have insurance or not as dentists are not allowed to have separate fees for the same procedure.  Talk to your dentist and get a second or third opinion, but the teeth should be straightened so the bite, muscles and upper quadrant function in harmony.

Change in bite: Your orthodontic appliance have started changing your bite, so that might be the culprit. Could even be referred pain. Then again, without an exam, radiographs, or even knowing your age, it is impossible to tell for sure over the internet. You should ask your orthodontist.

braces: what does it mean if my top teeth arent as crooked as the bottom?

Just that...: It means just that; upper is less crooked than lower arch. Teeth are held by gums and bones underneath, as you know.  Now, the bones are remodeling everyday, every second, although adding and losing is 50/50 and they remain stable. Teeth do move however, as a slightest change occurs in mouth--e.g., cheek muscle mass, sleep pattern, chewing/breathing habits---more lower teeth get crowded with age.

: What is the transpalatal bar for? Were you injured? Is it part of an orthodontic plan? If injured you would probably need to heal first. If it’s orthodontics then it would be up to the orthodontist.  Otherwise, check with the professional that placed the bar.

Orthodontic choices: It's the expertise of the orthodontist that determines the result of treatment and not the methods that he\she uses to attain it. Either one can attain the desired result. You should discuss this subject with your own orthodontist so that you are comfortable with your decision.

i had braces as a teen but had an accident and needed them again. i had upper limited braces on the front 6 teeth and now my front teeth feel too close. is it possible that widening the top front 6 teeth made my front two teeth closer?

: Without knowing what your dentition looked like before your accident and how it looks now makes it difficult to answer your question in a meaningful way. It is very possible you had very slight spacing before the trauma and now you have none. Your orthodontist can elaborate further using your diagnostic records as a reference.

Your orthodontist, someone who can actually see you, take measurements, and develop possible treatment plans is the best person to discuss this with. You may need to also consult with an oral surgeon. As a team, the two specialists can work to give you the smile you desire.

Unfortunately, : Unfortunately, this question listed under orthopaedic surgery, rather than orthodonics.  However, there are a few principles here.  First, try calling your orthodontist to find out if there is a temporary one you can use.  If you cannot afford what he/she is offering, consider a meltable mouth guard available at most drug stores.  They usually can be softened in hot water.  You wouldn't want to wear it much during the day, but can wear it at night.  Make sure you shape it very carefully to your teeth to get as much "hold" as possible.  While there may be a little motion in 2 weeks time, it should not be so much that your new appliance won't fit, though it may feel tight at first.

Immediately contact your General Dentist for an examination&gt;diagnosis&gt;treatment plan or referral. If your braces are involved, speak to your specialist Orthodontist. If you don't have one, fin$ one.
