Not smart: Braces don't cause gum recession.  Improper oral hygiene and/or positioning teeth outside of proper bone support can cause recession.  If concerned, ask your orthodontic 
specialist and your general dentist to have you evaluated by a periodontist.

Typically recession : Sometimes teeth can be moved to help slow down or stop recession, but there are rare instances that the gums will come back on there own.

Irrelevant: Controversy exists in the literature between the role of orthodontic treatment and gingival recession. If during the orthodontic treatment you keep proper dental hygiene and follow orthodontist's instructions it won't influence gum recession.  There is no evidence base for the role of orthodontic treatment and gingival recession.
If concern, ask your orthodontist prior signing inform consent.

Partly: Braces can fix your bite but not the gum recession. See an endodontist to treat the gum recession.

Should not: If your gums are swollen around your braces that have been on for a while (more than a couple of weeks), it may be that you are not keeping the gums clean enough. It is important to have good brushing and flossing habits while in braces. Ask your orthodontist to evaluate your efforts.

Ortho adjustment: See your Orthodontist for an evaluation. Could be many things- accidental irritation which will go away on its own or something that needs to be addressed by your Orthodontist.

Yes: With or without braces the gum will swell locally, around the erupting tooth. Braces can only make it worse if you are not diligent with your oral hygiene because of the braces. So, yes and no.

in the middle of the night, 5 days ago, i woke up with my gum swollen in my left back side of my mouth. it seems that my very last bracket on my braces caused this. the swollen part is shaped like a molar but it is soft. what should my concerns be?

Irritation: You may have a long wire, a loose/displaced tube, or you may have a molar trying to erupt.  Call either your General Dentist or your Specialist Orthodontist and have him/her take a look.  it's probably an easily resolved problem.  In the meantime keep area clean and dab Orabase-B onto the sore spot.

i have really bad breathe. i try flossing, brushing, gum, mints but it just comes back. how can i get rid of it? i have braces, is that a reason why?

Braces do trap stuff: Halitosis (bad breath) after certain foods or drinks occurs for several reasons. Chemicals from some foods/drinks diffuse into the flesh in the mouth and throat. These chemicals (odors) keep coming out into the breath for many hours. Some foods/drinks cause odors when in the stomach. Stomach odors will come up through burps, and even without noticeable burps. Some substances stick to the teeth.

i'm a 16 yr old girl. i have braces and it caused a cut in my gums and it started bleeding. moreover i have loose motions and it caused me to throw up. there was small amounts of blood in it,and when i saw that cut it was also bleeding. is it serious?

Not serious : The cut and the bleeding gums will show blood in mouth and saliva.  You can rinse your mouth with some mouthwash or warm salt water( tablespoon of salt in 1/2 cup of hot water, rinse for 30 sec and spit) to clean cut.  You need to brush your teeth twice daily for over a minute getting the tooth and gums next to braces.  They may bleed at first but will stop and be healthy.
