i have a muscular type pain from my left back shoulder up into my neck. it is painful all the time and my neck bones are cracking a lot.

Prob. OA in neck: Usually no cure. Try heat and massage and alleve od advil (ibuprofen). If no relief see your pcp.

lately when i roll my shoulders or move them i feel a lot of cracking like my bones are rubbing. after awhile it starts to feel sore and stiff. ?

Crepitus: There are many causes for popping in the joint (crepitus).  This can include but is not limited to bursitis, tendinitis, cartilage or labral tear, cartilage wear (arthritis), joint instability, and rotator cuff tears.  If there is no associated pain, then likely you don't have to worry about it.  If there is pain, then see your doctor.

when i wake up my neck cracks a lot and throughout the day my bones always need cracking and my back feels tight. is this cause i dont get enough calcium, low bone density or something else?

: Cracking,snapping,popping sounds in the neck are usually not signs of any deficiencies or bone pathology but are caused by tendons&amp;ligaments sliding over joints&amp; air bubbles in joints. However, if these symptoms are very frequent, they could be due to cartilage damage within joints. An orthopedic specialist can evaluate and advise you. Any appropriate testing will be done.

Sound doesn't matter: Joints will often make popping or cracking sounds. This doesn't indicate any danger or negative. The things to watch for is pain or swelling. If these happen then you should see a doctor.  
No studies have found a need for supplementation, especially in healthy young adults.

i broke my upper humerus 12 weeks ago. it is still very painful and feels as if it's cracking when i move it. an x-ray shows it is healing and with calluses forming. might i be damaging this new bone formation by moving my arm a lot? i am aged eighty?

: Three months is about right for the bone to heal, but in our maturation we do not heal as quickly as in our youth.  Healed bones often are stronger than before, and not uncommonly differebntly shaped at the repair.  I suggest you phase into using the broken arm slowly increasing the load. Don't forget ti give your doctor a call about this,

Accepted Answer

Yes.: It can help increase bone density, but much more so when you are in late teens and early twenties.  Remember,  no amount of calcium, vitamin d, or natural hormones can prevent calcium loss from bones if they are not stressed.  So the answer is yes.

Yes and no: 30 year old female with chronic &quot;bones cracking all over&quot; absent pain likely has Joint Hypermobility Syndrome (JHS) &amp; should consult the Brighton criteria.  A not insignificant percentage of women have this genetic variant, which has an association with fibromyalgia. Loose joints (loose ligaments) allow opposing bony edges to slip in and out of anatomical position and, as doing this, to crepitate.
