help docs! i'm trying to find out what causes bone splinters in your gums?

See Oral surgeon: Is it in an area that a tooth was recently extracted?  If not i would recommend you see an oral surgeon to have the area evaluated.  Could be a vitamin deficiency or an osteomyelitis (a type of bone infection).

Call your surgeon: The "splinter" may not be that at all... It might be the edge of the socket. If so, it will need to be smoothed down. If it is a bone spicule, your dentist can easily tease it out painlessly and quickly, allowing your gums to heal that much faster. Give the office a call.

how to help with  slivers of bone from lower gum protruding?

See your dentist: Bone doen not normally protrude from your gingival tissue and is usually seen after an extraction. If so, see the dentist who extracted your teeth so that the bone can be smoothed down.

The pieces may also be shards of broken tooth... You still need to see a dentist.

Probably IS bone: Could be many things, but it is very common to find a bony "torus" on the inside of the lower jaw bone, the outside of the upper jaw and the midline of the palate. Have your dentist verify it--just in case. They can grow quite large and often are injured by food with "edges" (chips, bacon, toast) because the overlying gum tissue is thin and fragile.

Weaker gums: That means loss of the supporting tissues for your teeth(bone), leads to pocketing between the gums and teeth , mobility, plaque collection and inflammation , the condition called periodontitis, 
it ends with teeth loss if un treated..

i just had a cyst surgicly removed from my gums and they filled the space with bone graphing could it grow back?

Probably not: It depends upon what kind of cyst.  Check with the doctor that removed it.

Not : Not enough information to answer your question.  Did you have a recent extraction or other dental work?  Do you have periodontitis (gum infection)?  Are you taking any bisphonate drugs (fosamax, aredia, (pamidronate) zometia) for osteoporosis, multiple myeloma, breast cancer, or prostate cancer?

You seek an evaluation by a general dentist or oral and maxillofacial surgeon as soon as possible.

Extraction: After a tooth is extracted your body sends many different types of cells to the area to begin the healing process. It is important not to disturb the area while it is healing. i have a retainer, but i forgot to wear them for months. the retainer still fits easily, but the right side of the retainer is pushing my upper gum bone, leaving the retainer mark. what do i need to do?

: Time to see your orthodontist. If the right side of the retainer is pressing somewhere it didn't before , there is the high liklihood that your teeth have moved.

Lump of bone?: It sounds like an exostosis; torus. However, without actually examining you and seeing x-rays of the area, no one can give you a definitive diagnosis over the internet.
