Safe, but: It's safe, but why not ask your doctor to give you a prescription for simvastatin. It's a medium to high (depending on dose) potency statin that's well studied and well tolerated. Best of all, it's generic and much less expensive. If you wish to stay with Lipitor, at least get the generic, atorvastatin.

Losartan is a drug: used to treat hypertension and protect kidneys.  Lipitor (atorvastatin) is a drug that lowers LDL cholesterol.  Every drug has side effects, but your doctor has determined their benefits exceed the risk of side effects when he prescribed them.  High blood pressure is not a side effect of either med.  Your doctor/pharmacist has gone over the side effects with you.

May help: Statin drugs like Lipitor (atorvastatin) lower LDL cholesterol, as well as other forms of lipids that lead to blocked arteries and damaged arteries.  They can also reduce the inflammation of the blood vessel, which is a potent driver of the process that leads to damaged and blocked arteries.  Cigarette smoking causes tremendous damage to the arteries via multiple mechanisms.  Best bet - STOP SMOKING!!
