Spots on sclera: Darker areas usually represent variation in the thickness of the scleral layer and not a problem.   By black spots, you may wish to take a photo and have a consult an eye doctor.

Birthmarks?: Hmmm... without seeing your son, it is hard to say; however, it can be very normal to have "freckles" or areas of hyperpigmentation in the sclera of the eyes.  Although, adequate calcium intake is important, I am unsure as to why your physician would have linked the two.

Vitamins: If you are darker skin race you can have some darker pigment in the sclera of your eyes.  I would clarify the recommendation of the vitamin with the prescriber as I am not sure the two are related.

Floaters: You are likely seeing floaters or thickening in the vitreous jelly inside the eye which move around after you move your help quickly with coughing.  If the floaters are new, you should see an eye doctor for an evaluation.

Likely floaters : Vitreous floaters increase with aging of the eye. Depending on various factors, such as refractive error, genetics, eye diseases or injuries, the presence of floaters varies. But as you do age, the number increases. Remember to always follow up with your eye doctor if sudded changes occur.

eyes test was perfect 20/20 vision. i see black spots flashes and sparks of blue but my eye test was perfect nothing wrong. what could be the cause?

Possible migraine: If you are seeing these spots and sparks in a pattern and for some defined period of time (15-30 min) this could be due to migraine visual phenomena.  If it is just a momentary thing then it probably relates to the vitreous gel in one or both eyes getting a bit more liquified.

i have a few black spots on the white of my right eye, i noticed them about 8 years ago. they have not changed. any idea what it could be or if anything to worry about?

: Your body distributes pigmented cells throughout your body during fetal life and some end up on the white of the eye- so that is the most likely source of your spots. One other possibility is that some nerves from inside the eye penetrate the white and carry with them pigment cells from inside the eye which you will see as black spots.  Both these are benign conditions-not to worry.

Floaters: You are seeing shadows cast by the jelly-like fluid that fills the eye, the vitreous.  We call these floaters.

New floaters can be a sign of a serious eye problem like a hemorrhage or retinal detachment.

Swollen: I am worried about the spots-- you may have a retinal tear or detachment.  Seek care soon from your local ophthalmologist.  The swollen area on your sclera should also be checked.
