Get it looked at: A black discoloration of the skin around the nail could be due to a variety of reasons including infection, trauma, or in rare instances a skin cancer. If you have not notice any significant improvement or if it has increased in size, you should having it looked at by your primary care physician who may want to refer you to a dermatologist or podiatrist for a biopsy.

Good question: there can be many explanations including whether this is inherited from other family members, or whether you have a systemic medical illness. If the pigmentation is only around the nails, a  dermatologist may be able to help. discuss this with your physician and if your general health is clean, seeing a dermatologist may be the best way to answer this question

Soak it: Soak the finger in warm soapy water daily to keep it clean.  Let the damaged portion fall off on its own.  Have a doctor look at it if there are signs of infection: redness, swelling, increased pain, pus.

i lost some of my big toes nail by stubbing it with a lot of force on accident the skin underneath has gone hard there was some black but i picked it all out no bleeding pain is gone is this normal its been 4 days since it came off its 5% of nail?

: You lost 5% of your big toe nail is what I understand your question without pain or bleeding.  Or the nail came off leaving 5% of the nail attached.  Either scenario without infection the nail will grow out. Takes 6 months to grow out completely.  Any bleeding has stopped. No other signs of infection   Should be fine with time. Trim any sharp edges.

black tiny spot on my small toenail. i cut the nail portion off and dark spot came off with the nail. but left a pinkish wound on the skin. wat is it?

Open vs closed sore: Somehow the skin was injured. It bled and that is why the nail had a dark spot. It was just blood. If the pink spot is still draining, you have a small ulcer that needs topical antibiotic and band aid. If there is no drainage, it is new skin and healing.

dropped heavy item on big toe. its been black for two months. pain is gone now bit skin above nail is blk too. should i get it looked at or will it go?

Black toe: The first question I have about this is the skin really black or is it a scab ?  If the skin is truly black then , yes , this merits an evaluation .  The nail may be black or look black because it is likely stained with blood.  This will be evaluated at the same time as the skin

It depends on size: If it is tiny, you can watch it for any further growth. Unless it is changing in size and color, it may not be anything. Keep an eye on it for 4-6 months and watch if it changes or not.

See remark: Try dipping you foot in warm water for 15 minutes twice a day.As much as possible elevate the affected foot on stool/chair.I don't know what you do,but try not standing /walking for some period..If in a week time no
progress seen ,then seek medical help

so i stubbed my toe and now the nail and the skin around where i impacted don't look right. the nail is at an odd angle and the skin is a red/black ?

Nail bed trauma: Since the nail is at an odd angle damage to the nail bed must have occurred. There is most likely collection of blood under the nail causing the black color.  The nail more likely than not needs to be removed.
