Hydrate well: with water or electrolyte solutions, stretch the muscles and/or massage the knots, and heat may help.

Muscle sprain: May take longer to heal, weeks at times, so rest your muscles, warm compresses may help with occasional use of NSAIDS, topical/systemic , unless contraindicated, good luck

Muscle tightness: It sounds like you have some tightness in your calf
muscle.
I would suggest 5-7 minutes of easy jogging followed
by stretching the affected area prior to running at a faster
pace.
If you try to run before stretching you might tear part of the muscle.

Deep Vein Thrombosis: I doubt anyone with a real DVT would be able to run. But, yes, it would be very dangerous to run without a diagnosis or being on treatment to resolve this dangerous clot.

Calf pain: How often are you doing your exercises?  Do you maintain a consistent schedule or a sporadic one?  Do you stretch before you run?  You might start slow and run a short distance while allowing your body to get use to the work out.  As time passes, you can start increasing the distance and speed as well.

Depends: Rest, tylenol (acetaminophen) or motrin. Warm bath, strech. If no improvement visit your doctor.

Ice, rest, stretch: Usually this problem is secondary to running on a hard
surface or repetitive activity. Treatment is ice massage, nsaids, 
rest and stretching.  Also your running shoes lose their 
cushioning function before they wear out visually. So if you
run on a regular basis, replace your shoes every 6-8 months.

Overuse: This would be a rare location for a blood clot.  It sounds more like an overuse problem--you started running too hard too fast or a strain from an abnormal gait or footwear

See your doctor: There are different possible causes for knee, calf and ankle pain.  The most worrisome would be a blood clot.  Would recommend an evaluation with your physician or local orthopaedic surgeon to identify the cause and recommend treatment.

i have been running a lot and recently started to have lower calf pain. when i walk around or ice, i can sometimes feel the pain shoot down into my heel/foot. i assume its a strain and rest is best, but wanted to make sure it might not be serious?

: Not sure what “running around a lot” actual means. You would b best to be evaluated by your family doctor. They can determine the type of Referal you might require. A podiatrist  the swelling from running could be placing pressure on your nerves. But.  I Am more concern about why are your calves are swelling. Bilateral calve swelling with running is not normal. Further evaluation is needed
