Muscle strain : Suspect the MTH and surrounding muscles are being irritated by the shoe insert or gait pattern. See an orthopoedist who specializes in foot disorders, or a podiatrist. Suspect a proper orthotic will resolve this issue. In the meantime, roll the plantar surface of your affected foot over a coke bottle for 5-10 minutes nightly, while seated; directly massage metatarsal area, insert foot in whirlpool

Toe twitching: Get some rest, eat of good healthy meal, drink fluids and see if it goes away.  The chances of it being ALS or ms is incredible small.  It's only been one day.

Can be intermittent: If a herniated disc causes signs like straight leg raising or sciatic nerve tenderness, it can be intermittent. So can any neurological or muscular sign or symptom. Left alone most resolve with conservative treatment. And some people with herniated disc on imaging studies have no pain.

Ice and elevate: If pretty sure not broken or ligament tear,likely due to the swelling.The best treatment is RICE therapy.Rest,Ice,Compression,Elevate.Be carefulnot to reinjureit.Ice the area down for 20 minutes 3 times a day,elevated the ankle,ace wrap or ace ankle bandage.See physician soon if getting worse or fails to improve

Repetitive Strain: Walking, hiking or running long distances produces symptoms of repetitive strain or cumulative trauma in toes similar to keyboard operators rapid sequential finger motions that do not allow adequate time for muscle actions to rest between contractions to replenish vital nutrients carried by blood flow into tendons, fascia and muscle fibers. Rest, ice and elevation can cure RSI symptoms.

Foot spasm: or twitching can simply be a sign of a nerve impingement. This can stem from a higher nerve area such as L5, which innervates the middle arch area as well as the 4th toe.  Typically, patients notice the lumbar spinal nerve injuries at night while lying flat.  This may also simply be incidental. I would check with your provider for a proper exam, diagnosis and treatment if needed!

i have been taking geodon since october of last year. my friends started noticing my hands shaking and more recently facial twitching so im weaning off if it. im having foot spasms and toe twitching. could that be a normal part if withdrawal?

Unknown : Commonly there is no clear cause.  Less commonly, it can be from heavy exercise, overuse, or fatigue.  Even less commonly, it can be from an imbalance of magnesium, calcium or vitamin d.  Thyroid disorders, hormone disorders, pregnancy, nerve disease or injury are some other rare causes.  If symptoms persist or become worse, you should seek a professional consultation.

A few things: It might be some fatigue in the small muscles in the foot, plantar fasciitis, tarsal tunnel or other nerve issue, restless leg syndrome among other possibilities. If it worsens or is bothersome enough now, see a podiatrist.

Twitching: Twitching is a neuromuscular problem.  Muscles and nerves work using ions (such as ca+/na+/k+).  Try eating bananas and foods rich in calcium.  If it persists, you may need to see a neurologist for emg/ncv studies to make sure you don't have something else going on, such as a nerve impingement in your spine or some type of neuropathy (where the nerves change the way they conduct their signals).
