Improper : Fit shoes, entrapment of deep peroneal nerve, low back pain, systemic disease , vitamin deficiency are other possible reasons to feel this.

Yes: Throbbing after bunion surgery is associated with swelling and inflammation, comonly seen after any foot surgery.  The best remedy is to elevate the foot and apply ice for 15 minutes three times a day.  Elevation of the foot is probably the most important remedy.

my big toe is crossing over my second toe. i got told this may be a bunion. i am only 17. i experience no pain from it. do i need a surgery?

Think it Over.: Your description certainly sounds like a bunion to me. Whether or not you have it removed is entirely up to you. The usual reasons include pain, either with or without shoes. Some times the ability to even buy shoes is a problem. Believe it or not, but, people even have them removed because they don't like the way they look.  My advice is to have them removed when you are ready and well informed.

Correct - not really: But you could accomodate by wearing shoes that do not put pressure on it.

Multiple causes ...: What type of bunion surgery was performed?  During surgery, the nerve could have been inadvertently damaged causing the numbness.  Losing balance could be a result of the type of bunion surgery ... The first metatarsal is not bearing most of the weight as a result of the bone cut.  Would need more background information but you need to have someone review your history.

: It sounds like you are describing an over correction of your bunion deformity. That very well can happen but should not have happened. You did not say when surgery performed. Answer to your question is yes. Anything you can do to hold the toe in a proper position is of benefit . However, if surgery has been months unlikely to change the position of the toe. But no harm in positioning yourself.

Strain: You are exerting too much pressure on the tendon on top of your toe. You can try and use crutches to assist you in getting around for brief periods of time.  Speak with your surgeon regarding your discomfort .
