Sinus irrigation with sterile (boiled or distilled) water with salt in it can also help [neti pot]. Avoid antihistamines as they dry up congestion where it is.

A culture can be sent to determine particular bacterial causes and will help to guide therapy. Allergic triggers, cystic fibrosis, ciliary disease, aspirin sensitivity may be related to the cause.
