i take red clay supplements for my gastritis. ingredients:sodium 71mg and bentonite 2175 mg's for 3 pills and i-3 pills a day with water. good or not?

Unknown: I have heard of deglycerated licorice for gastric problems, but I have not heard of bentonite.  I do know bentonite helps keep water in ponds.

Bentonite clay: Bentonite clay binds many drugs in the intestine and therefore prevents the absorption of the drug.  There will be less problem if they are several hours apart, but there is  variability of intestinal movement, so the results are somewhat unpredictable....I.E. How much zoloft (sertraline) would actually be absorbed and how much bound by the clay.

No specific data: I find no specific data for this absorbent material, rarely used medically as a bulk laxative but best known as kitty litter or to plug leaks in ponds. Since it remains within the digestive tract i can see no reason it would get into breast milk.

May have, yes: Bentonite clay comes as several different types, depending on the predominant electrolyte associated with it, i.e. Sodium, potassium, magnesium or calcium. It may also remove helpful medications from the blood stream, like those used to treat high bp, rendering them less effective. It should only be taken with your doctor's knowledge and supervision.

Who says it works?: The only way to really know if a treatment works or not is to test it against a standard treatment in such a way that neither the patient nor the doctor knows which treatment is being used. For treatments to work on brown recluse bites, they have to be started before the bitten tissue dies. Most people don't even know they have been bitten until then and so come to the hospital late.

Unknown: My common side effect is constipation.  Far as I know, no reports of kidney stones.

Where to begin?: Symptoms of? Gallstones causing symptoms really are best treated by surgical removal of the gallbladder. No matter what you do- over time the symptoms will worsen. Symptoms from diverticuli usually means inflammation and once these show up more than once, you are eventually going to need surgical care. The detox process probably won't  disrupt body balance enough to change either symptom set.

Bentonite clay is : a preparation for external use only. Please specify the name of the product you plan to ingest or have your pharmacist review the ingreduents. Alkali like sodium bicarbonate increase absorption of adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine). Urinary acidifying agents decrease absorption.

what do i do?

Depends on condition: Valproate is used to treat Bipolar disease, but also Epilepsy and Migraines. If your son has been diagnosed with Bipolar or Epilepsy, then a consultation ASAP with his prescribing physician/counselor is necessary to find the reason for his noncompliance. If taking for migraines, the situation is not as dire and time can be spent determining if another treatment is better for him.

what helps lower sodium levels in your body besides medication? i have heard bananas will anything else?

Low sodium: Bananas help with low potassium not sodium. Low sodium is treated with water restriction or adjustment of medications, if you are on blood pressure medications. See your doctor for that.
