my baby is 2 and a half and has really bad eczema on her arms, neck, and now her face. can i apply benadryl (diphenhydramine) cream to help with the itching?

No do not use: benadryl (diphenhydramine) cream.. Get some aveeno oatmeal bath packets and put her in the bathtub with one of these packets dissolved to soothe the itch. They should help a lot. You can also use 1% hydrocortisone cream twice a day on lesions. These may help a bit. See her Dr. for something stronger.

Rash infant: No I would not use the Benadryl (diphenhydramine) cream as it can be absorbed by the baby 's skin.  I would suggest using a fragrant free and perfume free lotion daily for what may be eczema.  If no help get her examined.

Sounds fine: Benadryl cream for a few minutes or more, on a 10-month old, should not have any noticeable effect. If such a baby has ill symptoms such as fussiness, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or pain, she may have some other illness instead of just a heat rash. If worried, parents may contact their pediatrician for advice or an in-person exam.

Topical Benedryl: Topical Benedryl is considered safe to use in toddlers.  It is not recommended if the child is also taking oral Benedryl at the same time.

Sleepiness: If the infant took one dose, they may get very sleepy. Try to hydrate the baby if he/she is awake as much as you can and if you notice any trouble breathing take them to the er, but generally it should be ok and will resolve on its own.

Possibly: Do you have a rash with itch?  There are some topical/ cream products that contain benadryl that can be safely used on the face. Please read label of the medication first - to insure it is meant for facial use.

is an antihistamine and can cause drowsiness.   Histamine is a neurotransmitter that excites or makes the system alert - so something that blocks it can make the system drowsy.

Yes: A 7 month old can use topical benadryl (diphenhydramine) for itching associated with mosquito bites. Also, applying cold compresses and ice should bring down swelling and help with itching.

how does hydrocodone cream works? how can my hubby be alergic to benadryl (diphenhydramine) but not hydrocodone? aren't they the same thing?

Totally different: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is an antihistamine and hydrocodone is an analgesic. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) works for allergic diseases , hydrocodone works for certain pain.  However I believe you meant hydrocortisone cream which works for allergic skin lesions (contact dermatitis) since I am unaware of the availability of a hydrocodone cream.
