I don't think so: I have treated police officers and they continued to work.  Treatment should be confidential and is a sign of strength that someone sought help.  I think that having depression gives a person more empathy towards other people's problems which is a good trait for a police officer.

Not likely: Traditional MRI cannot diagnosis depression, nor other "functional" problems, such as dementia, etc.  Imaging such as MRI can only assess anatomy.  There are functional MRI scanners which are in use, typical in research, frequently in dementia.  Most applications of fmri are still experimental.

Psych Evaluation: Clinical depression aka major depressive disorder can only be diagnosed after the patient undergoes an evaluation performed by a licensed healthcare professional. This person could be your primary care physician, nurse practitioner , physician's assistant, social worker, marriage and family therapist, psychologist, or psychiatrist. If the individual meets certain criteria the diagnosis is made.

This is depression > 2 wks, severe enough to interfere with everyday life, and accompanied by changes in sleep, energy, appetite, ability to experience pleasure, suicidal ideas, and so forth.  Many depressed moods are not severe enough to count as "clinical".
