dr said my esophagus is red and he diagnosis me as silent reflux but i have no symptoms. could the red esophagus be a sign of other thing?

: Typically, during an upper endoscopy, the esophagus that has reflux affecting it looks a certain way and the GI doctor can diagnose this based on this appearance. They likely also took specimens to be certain, for example, there is no infection or even malignancy. You should ask the GI doctor if these specimens were sent to the lab and, if so, what the results were. Good luck!

if my pathology report only says "consistent with barrett's esophagus" does that mean non dyplasic? dr said fu 3 years egd is that a good sign?

Very good sign: Call your doctor and pathologist's office and let them know you would like clarification of whether or not there were dysplastic changes. They would certainly mention them if they were present because they change the prognosis and treatment. Make sure you follow your treatment recommendations and in 3 years hopefully you will get great news. GERD does not go away, you must treat it. Good luck.

Cough: Is it serious: It sounds like with swallowing and acting normal you do not need to be worried. Drinking fluids is another reason to be reassured.

barrets esophagus.doc said he thinks pathologist over read b/c he sees no signs of it... can it be reversed with nexium (esomeprazole)? he gave me 40mg 2xday

Possibly: High dose PPI's can prevent progression of Barrett's Esophagus to Cancer, and possibly reverse abnormal cellular changes in esophageal tissue.  It is also possible that your GI i correct that Path over-read biopsy.

barium swallow test results said esophagus has normal mucosa and no gerd. does that mean no tissue changes and no sign of cancer? endoscopy was normal also. could they have missed something? ive been having chest pain in 1 spot middle of my chest?

: Normal means normal. The endoscopy would pick up anything the barium swallow might miss. There are other reasons for focal pain that your doc should discuss with you. I would not consider cancer when these tests were normal.

Anything's possible!: H.Pylori status is checked with the intention of treating the infection to eradication, when found.  Some strains of h.Pylori may increase your risk of ulceration as well as of stomach cancer. Diagnostic options: serology (a positive test may not necessarily mean active infection), breath testing, stool testing for h.Pylori antigen, stomach biopsy or CLO testing.

will taking rabeprazole mask signs of esophageal cancer?

No: This medicine is an antacid...So it can not mask anything. Most essophagus-related cancer patients will have difficulty in swalowing their food as the early symptom.

Tough: Dysphagia is usually a problem with a neurologic cause. It is difficulty in swallowing to the point  the person may aspirate in any of the phases of swallowing.
Globus is a problem with swallowing that is usually thought to be psychogenic in origin and is made worse by stress and anxiety. Re the GERD, see your doctor again and at your age you may not need an EGD. Ask the doctor why no endoscopy.

Do U have Achalasia: Achalasia is defined by absent peristalsis in the esophagus &amp; incomplete relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter (les).  It may be a "primary" esophageal motility disorder, or "secondary" to cancers invading the les (pseudoachalasia), chagas disease from reduviid bug bites, amyloidosis, sarcoidosis, eosinophilic infiltration. Similar motor abnormalities can be seen with diabetes &amp; ciip.
