Cough: Is it serious: It sounds like with swallowing and acting normal you do not need to be worried. Drinking fluids is another reason to be reassured.

Less likely: Recurrent cough can be a sign of a foreign body lodged in the airway (aspirated) or in the esophagus. The symptoms would likely be more frequent or even constant. Additionally, normal eating and drinking would make it much less likely. It cough worsens, it's easy enough to rule this out with a upper GI barium swallow.
