How tall are you ?: Given your stated age &amp; weight it is confusing as to why you would want to gain weight. If you are at least 5'9" a weight of 168 lb would be considered at the high end of a healthy weight. From 5'8" down to 5'3" you would be considered overweight &amp; below 5'2" obese. I would discuss this with your doc before pursuing weight gain.

Underactive thyroid: An underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) can cause unexplained weight gain, especially in someone doing all the right things, eg healthy nutrition & regular physical activity. Go see your family doc for a very simple & inexpensive blood test.

Shake ok: Sounds like stomach irritation by either the meds or by gastritis . You might want to take some meds on a full stomach . Or try to take an antacid along with the meds.

Wow!: 4 to 5 bananas a day is a lot of sugar. Yes, you can gain weight if your total calories are also high. However if you maintain low total calories it is Ok. It doe snot cause drowsiness. However, some people sleep better if they get enough carbohydrates specially as fruit sugar.

Not really: Bananas can be hard to digest and can be constipating so watch out for that. It is better to eat a well rounded diet with a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. There is not a concern for bananas and weight gain unless you are eating way too many....

Weight loss: Weight gain  depends on your total calorie consumption for a day  in relation to calorie expenditure ( i.E daily activity and excercise )

banyans do have a high glycemic index and 1 serving of medium banana is equivalent to 2 servings of carb i.e. 30 grams

you might want to add half a banana instead of 1 to your shake and exercise more and watch your total calorie intake for the entire day.
