Sore throat: For significant sore throat with swollen tonsils / lymph nodes –  see physician & get a strep throat test/ culture. If you have strep throat, antibiotic therapy is imperative to prevent future complications. Consider tylenol (acetaminophen) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications. Saltwater gargles: mix 1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water – gargle several times a day. Or gargle with aloe vera juice twice a day.

my tonsils have craters on them. i had a bad sore throat 2 years ago, they appeared then and haven't gone away. i took no medicine. any ideas?

Tonsil Craters: Hello, the white spots in the back of your throat sound like tonsilliths. These are food particles that get stuck in the tonsil tissues. They harden and make your tonsils look like they are infected. Under these tonsil pimples is a cavity or crevice that may be inflamed and infected. Gargle with water after every meal. This helps to clear these white pimples. Also see your doctor.

Large tonsil: Hello, your large tonsil could be a peritonsillar abscess. This would explain your worsening pain and persistent illness. See your doctor or er if swallowing your saliva is difficult or impossible.

If vitamin Z doesn't: do the trick after 3 days it's likely you have a viral pharyngitis which is much more likely than a strep throat.  Did you even see a physician or was this called in for you like it is done many thousands of times inappropriately every year? Viral pharyngitis peaks at 4 days and then begins to improve almost invariably unless you smoke in which case the residual symptoms can last for a couple week

Sore throat: Common causes for sore throat are strep, mono adenovirus and rhinovirus.  Allergic drainage can also cause sore throat.  You are young and appear to have no health problems so a fungal infection possible, but unlikely.  Although you do not have red or pustular tonsils strep still possible.  Fluids, ibuprofen and rest.  You may need to be seen.

Doctor can check: A doctor should evaluate a throat that has been sore for 1 week. An infection such as a cold should have almost healed up by then. Allergies would cause noticeable mucus drip down the throat. Strep throat can be the cause, and would need antibiotics like amoxicillin or azithromycin. A doctor can look to see what is going on, plus to a test for strep throat.

Tiny white spots: Probably not tonsil stones.  However, any white lesions in the mouth/throat of longer than 2 weeks duration should be investigated.  If white spots on tonsils or back of throat, see your General Physician for exam and to evaluate mucous.  If white spots in oral cavity see your Dentist to evaluate and to address your bad breath.  You may have to see both.

i constantly have a sore throat which results in bad odor coming from my mouth and thick saliva in the morning. ive become somehow used to the pain and the sounds my tonsils make on a daily. this started a couple of years ago, what is wrong with me?

Thick AM saliva: This biofilm in your mouth in the morning does contain bacteria which can account for the odor. Excessive dryness can predispose you to the thick saliva or even slime in the morning. I assume you don't smoke or have acid reflux. Sleeping with your mouth open and nasal congestion  add to saliva thickness.Drinking adequate amounts of water in the afternoon or evening may thin out your saliva.
