A member asked:

I constantly have a sore throat which results in bad odor coming from my mouth and thick saliva in the morning. ive become somehow used to the pain and the sounds my tonsils make on a daily. this started a couple of years ago, what is wrong with me?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Thick AM saliva: This biofilm in your mouth in the morning does contain bacteria which can account for the odor. Excessive dryness can predispose you to the thick saliva or even slime in the morning. I assume you don't smoke or have acid reflux. Sleeping with your mouth open and nasal congestion add to saliva thickness.Drinking adequate amounts of water in the afternoon or evening may thin out your saliva.
