Probably nothing: Several percent of healthy folks have positive ANA's around this titer. Nobody knows why but the vast majority of them never get lupus or seem to be any the worse.

i had a very bad reaction to last antibiotic for uti. trying d-mannose instead this time. how much should i take a day to rid? 12hrs, no relief yet.

Not a good idea: d-Mannose works for some as UTI preventative by inhibiting attatchment of bacteria to bladder wall. There are plenty of different antibiotics to treat UTIs. Just avoid the one that caused such a bad reaction. Good Luck

what is the likelihood of having a bad reaction with the antibiotic clindamycin?

Accepted Answer

Very safe antibiotic: Clindamycin is a very safe antibiotic. Loose stools or diarrhea are fairly common after a few days. If diarrhea isn't severe and not accompanied by cramps or blood, usually nothing to worry about.

if you turn bright red after a short time after taking a antibiotic does this mean your allergic? can you get tested for all antibiotics allergies. if they inject it and you have a bad reaction do they have rescue meds. thank you?

: It depends on the antibiotic. Vancomycin has a known reaction called redman syndrome which is not a true allergy, but rather a reaponse to the Antibiotic. It typically goes away with benadryl or on its own and does not mean you are allergic to it. Talk to your prescribing Dr for them to examine the response to this med. True allergic reactions typically show red spots or hives.

Not so much: Bad reactions to meds are likely more genetics than hypothyroidism. Consider testing for cyp2d6, 2c19, etc.

every 2 weeks i get the staph infection, i then go on antibiotics and it clears but seems to re-occur. this has happened 3 times.questions i have -taking antibiotics every 2 weeks is this bad for me ? does heat result  in the infection reoccurring

Antibiotics: A culture with sensitivities to various antibiotics will provide more information for your PCP to select an antibiotic which is best.
There are different types of Staph, including MRSA and the type and sensitivity pattern on a culture analysis is important information at this point. Antibacterial soap for bathing is suggested.

If true: If a true Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction, then aspirin (if no contraindications) may help with inflammation.  There is a risk of developing shock, so seek urgent care if feeling dizzy/foggy, unable to produce urine, chest pain or extreme palpitations, shaking chills etc.  Another possibility is allergic reaction to the antibiotic so discuss with a physician sooner than later.

Allergic antibody (IgE) mediated reactions occur rapidly after ingestion and can involve hives, skin swelling, wheezing, shortness of breath, nausea/vomitting, diarrhea, dizziness, confusion, palpitations, loss of consciousness and even death.  A delayed reaction can occur after days on the medicine and would have different constellation of symptom

Atypical: This medication is safe.  A small percentage of people develop allergy, which can be an immediate allergic reaction to Keflex alone, or to the family of antibiotics related to Keflex. It is best to discuss any symptoms with a physician well-practiced in diagnosing allergy
